At your first appointment, bring your prescription and current insurance information. From there, we will ask you about your lifestyle, activity level, stamina and more. We will walk through your prescription and answer your questions about the equipment. Next, we will do a casting of your limb with plaster of Paris. Once your product is built, we perform a full gait analysis to ensure that it is comfortable while walking and moving. During the gait analysis, we watch you walk with the new appliance. We use visual clues to put together a picture of your gait (or, walking pattern) and how the patient and the prosthetic are working together. When the fit is perfected, we will go over the daily cleaning and maintenance for your prosthetic. Your prosthesis may need to be adjusted over time at which time you will come back in so that we can make the necessary changes.
